Christian Education
Children’s
Sunday Ministry: 9:45 – 10:45, September
through May: Church
School classes for grades: Pre-School, K, 1st
& 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th &
6th. We aim to be faithful to
Scripture and to make the Reformed faith come alive in the everyday experiences
of the students. Lessons respect the
many ways children learn based on Gardner’s
theory of multiple intelligences. So,
lessons are kid-friendly, interesting and fun.
Workshop
Rotation: Each January, the children in grades 1-6
participate in a workshop rotation model church school.
Children’s
Hour: After the children’s message, during the 11:00 service,
children aged four through those in first grade go out for a time of crafts,
games and Bible stories with a staff member and a volunteer.
Youth Ministry:
Sunday morning classes meet from 9:30-10:30. The Arkitects
AM, grades 7& 8, use reformed and scriptural curriculum from the Life Way publishing
company. The Faithbuilders AM, grades 19-12, also use
Life Way materials as well as
studies that are topic driven. Arkitects PM and Faithbuilders PM (youth groups) have a very active,
innovative and exciting program. The youth groups meet on Sunday evenings from
6:30pm-8:15pm. The first Sunday of the
month is devoted to mission work such as the CROP Walk and preparing meals for
the homeless. Times for these events
vary.
Nursery:
Nursery childcare for children from birth through age three is
provided on Sunday mornings from 8:15 – 12:15 as well as for special evening
services and mid-week classes when offered. The members of the professional
nursery staff are members of the church staff and are in the nursery each week.
This consistency in staff ensures that the children are comfortable being left
in the care of people they know. The nursery staff, like all who work with
children and youth, has criminal and child abuse record clearances on file.
Mission Projects: In January, the youth receive
the “Souper Bowl” offering which is donated to
Phoenixville Area Community Services. Throughout the year they help our People
to People mission prepare food that is distributed to the homeless in Phila. In March the
entire church school collects canned goods for PACS. Every Lent the children
participate in One Great Hour of Sharing. In the fall, a different mission is
chosen. Past projects have included The Heifer Project and the Chulamul School in Guatemala.
Vacation Bible School: Vacation Bible
School is held each
summer. For the past two years, VBS has
been offered in July and August.
Intergenerational
Events: Twice a year the Christian
Education Committee holds an intergenerational event during the church school
hour. Past themes have included Thanksgiving, environmental issues, mission
work, Advent themes, the Bible, and Bread for the World.
Adult Education: Classes for adults will
take place on Sunday mornings (between services) and occasionally on Sunday
evenings. The Topics In Life Today class focuses on
Christian responses and leadership around current issues. The seminar class
offers various studies, guest seminars on parenting and other topics. The Bible
Study class studies the books of the Bible.
A weekly women’s Bible study meets on Wednesday mornings
beginning at 9:30am. The Men’s Breakfast
and Bible study group meets on the third Thursday of the month. Breakfast is at
the Phoenix
diner at 8:00am
and
the Bible study is in the church library beginning at 9:00am. For more information you may call the church
office at 610-933-8816 and ask for Peg Russell.
